A Benefit for Spare Change for Real Change
The Purple 5K run continues to grow as it empowers the community to be actively involved in the fight against homelessness, poverty, and addiction in our city. On the morning of May 3, 2020, we will host the 10th annual Purple 5K. This fun run/walk is designed to bring participants on a tour of our Downtown, from the campus of MSU Billings, through the hospital corridor, and to end under Sky Point. The 2019 Purple 5K brought nearly 700 participants to our downtown in support of Spare Change for Real Change. Funds have been used to aid the MAAP (Motivated Addiction Alternative Program) — a collaborative program intended to move people from addiction and cyclical negative behavior through a continuum of assistance and treatment, designed to give people the hope and motivation needed for recovery and transformation.
Over the last 10 years, this event has grown such that, as of this year, the Spare Change for Real Change program has raised over $130,000 that has been put towards work to alleviate homelessness through education, housing, social services, treatment/rehabilitation, and re-integration.
