Wednesday, April 2nd, we will be kicking off our VERY exciting new April series, COVID CASUALTIES: THE LOST CULT COMEDIES OF 2020, at Art House Cinema and Pub with a special screening of Emma Seligman’s coming of age film, SHIVA BABY! One of the many excellent films that got the full extent of their celebration snubbed by a certain major pandemic (but have gone on to become modern cult classics!), SHIVA BABY is an tense and uproarious comedy drama that tackles the struggles of sexual identity, self reflection, overbearing family life, and the Jewish identity of someone fresh into adulthood who is uncertain of their future moves, and it all plays out to a fascinatingly powerful effect!
Bisexual college student Danielle is in for a terribly stressful day when she is obligated to go to a shiva and finds that her sugar daddy is there and used to work for her father. With her parents, family friends, and ex-girlfriend in attendance, personal tensions rise as Danielle attempts to cover her tracks while contending with the ceaseless, probing and judgement of everyone around her.
