We’ve got another wonderful frontier film playing at the historic Babcock Theatre very soon! Saturday, April 12, we will be playing a special screening of Kevin Costner’s epic western war drama, DANCES WITH WOLVES, in celebration of the film’s 35th anniversary! A monumental historic drama of widespread acclaim, DANCES WITH WOLVES is a moving story with a compelling narrative that shows a man’s disdain for war while awakening to the celebration and understanding of the indigenous people of America and the nature around him. Full of beautiful shots of the natural landscapes of South Dakota and Wyoming, this is one of the most breathtaking films of the 1990s, and we are incredibly happy to be bringing it back to the big screen!
When Civil War union soldier John Dunbar is wounded in battle, he attempts suicide on the battlefield and miraculously becomes a war hero. With his wound treated, Dunbar is rewarded with his choice of posting and requests to the frontier to see it before it disappears. John soon makes unlikely friends with the Lakota Sioux of the area, and he is welcomed into their tribe, given the name “DANCES WITH WOLVES.” Leaving his former life behind, he falls in love with a woman in the tribe and lives with the natives, but tragedy is destined to strike when Union soldiers appear with designs on the land.
