What We Do in the Shadows
March 30 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$9
This month, we will beginning a very special celebration of the TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY of Art House Billings! Once a month through the rest of the year, we will be playing a special screening of a memorable film that has had a big impact in the Art House scene over the last ten years, and the film to kick it off will be Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s hilarious 2014 comedy mockumentary, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, playing at Art House Cinema and Pub Sunday, March 30th!
An undeniably excellent experiment in horror and comedy, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS takes a reality TV style approach to its filming as it archives the lives of vampires living in modern day New Zealand. Going all in on terrific gags and bits based on all sorts of aspects of vampire mythos, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is full of a unique, lighthearted charm that has yet to be truly emulated, and has even gone on to have spiritual successor television series!
Vladislav, Viago, Deacon, and Petyr are four vampires living as flatmates in New Zealand. They have hired a documentary crew to show off their way of living, their interests, and their commentaries on the modern world. With each of the four vampires being transformed at different points in history, they all stubbornly have their own worldviews and ways of living that naturally lead to drama and banter. When Petyr turns Nick, a hip young human, into a vampire, the gang of ghouls try to educate him on traditional vampire behavior, while Nick teaches the older vampires about the modern world. Computers, masquerade balls, werewolves, nightclubs, spaghetti, vampire hunters, and love ensue!
