That’s right- prepare for some turbulence, because Friday, April 26th, we will be playing a special screening of Jerry and David Zucker’s legendary 1980 comedy, AIRPLANE!, at the historic Babcock Theatre in celebration of the film’s 45th anniversary! An iconic exercise in absurdity, AIRPLANE! is a masterly crafted comedy that does not take a single second to breath with its absurdity and antics. This film really helped to shape the evolving landscape of humor as the film industry moved into the last quarter of the 20th century, inspiring countless creatives and comedians in the process!
At an airport full of oddball characters, a plane takes off resulting in an abundance of satirical plays on disaster film tropes. Amid drama, romance, disco, and heart transplants, ex-fighter pilot Ted Striker is ultimately forced to take over the controls when the pilots come down with food poisoning, leaving him and his ex-lover-turned-stewardess to work together in order to ensure a safe landing- absolute chaos ensues!
