His passion for music ignited by a $1 keyboard his grandfather bought him at a yard sale, internationally acclaimed pianist Mackenzie Melemed has gone on to play in esteemed venues from the White House to Beijing. Melemed will perform selections from Rachmaninoff’s November 7, 1942 Carnegie Hall recital—the great pianist’s final solo recital at the world’s most famous concert hall. Billings Symphony string principals join Melemed for Piano Quintet in A Minor, composed by pioneering African American composer Florence Price (1887–1953), who herself was a formidable concert pianist.
