High Noon Lecture Series with Kate Hampton

March 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join us each third Thursday at High Noon for a series of in-depth historical lectures from several experts in the field.  This year’s series will begin in March of 2022 (spring lectures will be filmed only).

Between 1910 and 1922, seventeen Montana communities built libraries with money given to them by the era’s richest man, Andrew Carnegie. Fifteen of those libraries stand today, and their story is compellingly told here by architectural historian Kate Hampton.

Hampton’s latest book, “The Best Gift: Montana’s Carnegie Libraries,” is an excellent look at the incredible impact made by Carnegie libraries in our state.  Numerous Montana communities were recipients of Andrew Carnegie’s wealth, and many of the donated libraries are still in use.  They continue to serve as architectural jewels in their communities, and provide valuable public education and resources as they continue to grow.

Hampton, the Community Preservation Coordinator for the Montana Historic Preservation Office, will share her own research, as well as Tom Ferris’ stunning photos, and a variety of other images that offer a detailed portrait of the Carnegie libraries in Montana.

Hampton’s noon program will also be broadcast through Facebook Live on the WHC page (https://www.facebook.com/WesternHeritageCenter/), and will be available through Community7 public television (access through www.ywhc.org/museum-programs/lecture-series/).

The WHC is located on 2822 Montana Avenue, and is open Tues-Sat, 10 am – 5 pm, with admission fees of $5 or less.  Information on exhibits, resources, and upcoming programs can be found at ywhc.org or by calling the WHC at (406) 256-6809.
