Q... Do I have to be a DBA Member to accept DBA Gift Cards as a merchant?

A...Yes!  Please consider becoming a member - Click Here
Q... As a DBA Member, how do I begin accepting Gift Cards at my store?

A... You will need a credit card terminal - contact us and we can program it to accept our Gift Cards www.mikaly@downtownbillings.net
   
Q... I am set up - what next?

A... You may authorize the gift card for an amount up to the current available balance only. 
 
  •  Swipe the gift card through your POS as a credit card
  • The returned authorization code is the remaining balance of the gift card
  • Please write the remaining balance on the tracking strips on the card's back (this helps both the customer and the next merchant)
  • Present the receipt to the cardholder for signature
  • Always return gift card to the cardholder even if the entire card balance has been spent.
 
Q. How do I know the Gift Card balance?
 
A... To check the gift card balance, you and your cardholder will need the account number on the back of the gift card 
 
  • Via back of the gift card:  See the balance tracking strip on the back of the card 
    (important for merchants to write balance after purchase)
 
  • Via Phone..........In the US: 1.800.755.0085
     
  • Via Web.............www.getmybalance.com
  • Via  POS Terminal:
  1. Swipe gift card
  2. enter and process $0.01 (1 penny)
  3. returned autorization code will be current card balance
 
 
  • Via Cardholder Receipt:
  • The authorization code on the receipt shows the remaining balance of the card in this format: an X represents a decimal point. Example: Authorization code: 127x64 would represent $127.64
 
 
Q... How do I Split Tender Transactions?
 
 A... if the sale amount exceeds the available funds on the gift card, we recommend that you process a split tender as follows:
 
  • Upon determining the gift card balance, obtain another form of payment from the customer for the amount of the sales that exceeds the card balance.
 
Q... How do I manage a DECLINED Sales Transaction? 
 
A... If the card is declined, be sure:
 
  1.  There are sufficient funds on the card by checking the balance.
  2. You are processing the gift card as a credit card
  3. The magnetic stripe is being read properly.  If not, call Merchant support for manual entry instructions.
  4. If at any time you need further assistance, please call the Merchant Support number, which is listed on the back of EVERY gift card.

 Q. Can you tell me a bit more about the DBA Gift Card?

A... Read on...
 
  1.  Each transaction must receive a valid authorization at the time of purchase.
  2.  Stores will be compensated for accepting the gift card as if they had accepted a credit card.  (Note that the Downtown Gift Card is a closed card to be used in participating DBA member locations.)
  3. Gift cards cannot be used for gratuities.
